music syncing

I know for the first assignment we are not using music but thought it was well worth the mention for later.

"IF 2009 zoetrop"

Perfect example of music syncing with visuals! I love its reference to the history of animation! I find this useful because the sound not only seems to match what is happening but also the aids in controlling the rhythm of the piece.

The Crisis of Credit Visualized from Jonathan Jarvis on Vimeo.

'The short and simple story of the credit crises' by Jonathan Jarvis!
Check out 'The crisis of credit visualized' site.

This is what great design can do for the greater good of human kind! Teach us things!

I really like how they have used the text-different sizes, placement and types. I admire how they have incorporating typography as part of the animation rather then just accompanying the visual. It uses humour and wit to teach the audience about the crises without making them feel like their dumb-just unaware! The animation uses familiar and simple pictographs which makes it simple and easy to understand and learn.

As taken from the article titled 'The crises of credit visualised'
" Jonathan’s animation uses a mostly iconographic approach, which is appropriate given the complexity of this subject matter. He essentially sets up a visual language, which he then layers and remixes to help us comprehend a wide range of related ideas. It works beautifully."
Another similar designer by the name of Simon Robson is also noted by the article as a designer who "... agonizes over which metaphor will extend his message, rather than simply illustrate it. He’s as interested in aesthetic and emotional impact as he is clarity." Its definitely worth your time checking out Simon Robson's site.

The colours-green, white and light brown relate to the theme as green -suggest money, white-suggest white collared people on wall st, and light brown-gold and wealth. They added depth to the piece by using gradients-for example in the background, giving the viewers eye a rest from solid colour. This is directly useful to me because it demonstrates how colours and effects can contribute to the message and continual visual interest.

At first i didn't think the narration ( by John Levoff) suited the piece but i soon realise his tone and script creates a comfort and 'down-to-earth' effect adding to the ease of learning.

They use a mixture of animation techniques which i can not as yet name all of them. I like how they have used kinetic typography-zooming in and zooming out in collaboration with images. I like the animation technique of mirror pattern and things seemingly popping and coming out behind and in front of things, from the side. I find this inspirational because it creates movement and emphases.

In short: very well made animation teaching you about the current credit crises. I hope to one day be able to do this sort of thing!

T. Rowe Price "ink" ad

This ad for T.Rowe Price is beautiful! I really like the line and drawing they have incorporated into the ad. Makes it feel more genuine and original. I also admire how they have contrasted this with the blue 'water colour' background which not only has created interesting textures but ties the whole work together. This is an example of the audio and visual being perfectly in sync.

What made it so visually interesting the whole way through, was their transitions. They used different angles , light and depth to keep the viewers interest while transiting to the next part. They use a range of shots including long shot, zoom, walk through and panning to continently create interest and visually depth. The most interesting aspect is how, through their style, that they have successfully created cohesion through the different scenes.

In short: amazingly designed and well thought out ad that you can watch over and over again.
